Youth Council

The Warren County Youth Council was started during the 2017-2018 school year.  This group of young individuals help serve and enrich our community in many ways each year.  From volunteer projects to visiting with our elderly friends, they come up with projects that help move our community forward in the right direction.

Warren County Youth Council Member receives Grant

Warren County Youth Council member Macy Smith wanted the opportunity to write a grant.  With the assistance of the Community Foundation, Macy wrote a grant to the SIA Foundation for outdoor music instruments for Fleming Woods County Park.  Out of over 350 applications, Macy's was one of only 20 selected as a recipient.  Her grant was for $8,661.55.  At the awards ceremony of June 14th, 2022, Macy learned that she was the only student grant writer.  One of the reviewers was surprised to learn that it was a student who had written the grant request!  After a long wait for the instruments to be shipped, they have now been installed at Fleming Woods on the red trail.  Taking the red trail in a counter-clockwise direction will get you to the instrument area the fastest.

Warren County Youth Council Wins OCRA QuIP Grant

The Warren County Youth Council applied for and won a grant for creating a game park.  Next to the pool in Williamsport was a large cement slab that once was the skate park.  The area is fenced in and the cement is in good shape.  The group brainstormed possible ideas in this youth lead project.  The two final ideas were a dog park and a game park.  Since so much of the space was cement, it was deemed to not be that good of a space for dog and the ideas for a game park started coming together.  OCRA had a grant opportunity for Quick Impact Placemaking Grants, and our youth council was one of the recipients of a $5,000 grant.  In addition over $7,000 of other donations and in-kind assistance helped make the project possible.  Over 100 hours of labor went into creating the game park.

Youth Council helps create Falls Branch Park

When school was cancelled in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  the Warren County Youth Council worked hand-in-hand with the local Health Department to establish healthy guidelines for safely working together to create a new trail system at the Williamsport Falls.  The Town of Williamsport went on to name this area a new town park in May 2020.  It is called Falls Branch Park.  Youth Council members and their families created nearly one-mile of foot trails.  These trails are enjoyed by local residents regularly, but also enjoyed by visitors from out of town or out of state who come to see the Williamsport Falls.
